Latest News and Bushfire Update, February 11 2009 PDF Print E-mail

Bushfire update - We can report that to date no Victorian orienteers have suffered injury or significant loss in the bushfires. We're keeping a close eye on the situation and will notify any change. Check the Orienteering Victoria website www.vicorienteering.asn.au, where Ian has been working hard to keep updates posted. Peta and Ian Whitford had a tough fight to save their home at Steels Creek but all is ok. Many orienteers are involved with CFA, wildlife rescue and other volunteer undertakings.

DROC has donated $1000 to the Red Cross bushfire appeal, and we are looking at other ways we can help. If anyone has any suggestions, or knows of any club member requiring direct assistance, please contact the Dodds on 9878 9168.

Our summer MTBO event at Silvan was cancelled due to the fire danger, and we are planning for a reschedule on March 28 (date to be confirmed).

Active at All Ages Awards - Wally Cavill was nominated by Orienteering Victoria to receive an "Active at All Ages" award, in recognition of his many years of providing healthy activity for seniors through streetO and his local walking group. We are extremely pleased to report that Wally is a finalist in these awards, the winners of which will be announced in Geelong on February 20.

Next club meeting will be on Wed Feb 25 at 8.30 pm, after the event at Forest Hill, at the Dodd Residence - all members welcome.
